Your dog is your best friend, and he is counting on you during a medical emergency. In our K9 First Aid & CPR course, you'll learn valuable medical skills to help your dog. Taught by an Army Special Forces Medic who works with Military Working Dogs overseas, this course prepares you like no other for every day life and emergencies with your K9. This comprehensive course is succinct and provides ample examples of human to canine parallels to make learning easy to follow and easy to incorporate into your life! MODULE 1
Prevention
"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." In this lesson, you'll learn about:
- Physical exams and vaccinations
- Parasite prevention, diet, and training
- Heat/cold injuries
You’ll finish this module with a solid understanding of how to prevent accidents and mishaps for your pet.
MODULE 2
Medical Kits
In this module, you'll learn:
- Individual and specific K9 needs, common injuries, handler abilities
- Small and large kits
- Improvised materials
We'll make sure you have everything you need on-hand in case of emergency.
MODULE 3
Anatomy and Physiology
In this lesson, you'll learn:
- What is your dog's homeostasis
- How to obtain temperature, pulse and respiration vitals
- Understanding capillary refill, skin turgor and gait analysis
You'll understand basic anatomy and physiology that will come in handy in case of an emergency.
MODULE 4
Physical Exam and Canine Casualty Care
This is where the rubber meets the road. Here, you’ll learn:
- How to perform a safe and effective initial physical exam
- Canine casualty care (M.A.R.C.H.) to include massive hemorrhaging, opening airway, respiration, circulation, and hypothermia
- What to do during common injuries and illnesses and how best to protect your dog
You’ll finish this course with the knowledge you might need to save your dog's life someday.
